The Smart Farebox

Because many transit operators around the world that operate smart card fare systems still accept fare payment in cash from a percentage of their passengers, and because securing that cash continues to be a strategic concern, BEA developed and manufactures a rugged and reliable yet very affordable farebox that accepts fare payments by both coins and by smart card. The farebox will print and validate bar coded printed paper transfer. In instances where cash fares can be restricted to coins, such as Canada with its one-dollar and two-dollar coins, such a farebox that does not require an expensive bill acceptor/validator is ideally suited to Canadian needs.
