City of Regina wins Innovation Award from CUTA

Regina Transit introduced the new fare system last November and today almost 81 percent of fare transactions use the R-Card. The cards, approximately the size of a credit card, contain a microchip that records the location, time and type of fare when a passenger boards the bus. The information is downloaded as data on a computer system located at the Transit Operations Centre. This data lets Transit better understand its clients’ travel patterns and helps to plan for the future.

L.A. Transit gets onboard with BEA smart cards

The BEA smart card-based, automated fare collection (AFC) system has been selected by the City of Lethbridge, Alberta for use on the local L.A. Transit system. The $1.4-million contract includes the supply and installation of a complete AFC system featuring the use of BEA smart card technology for its fleet of 43 transit vehicles. The system is expected to be launched in late 2011.

While not one of the largest displays, the BEA products generated a very favourable response from those who stopped by.
