BEA Transit Solutions Inc.
is the North American subsidiary of Grupo BEA, a leading transit technology
solutions provider based in Guadalajara, Mexico which in turn is a unit of
Idear Electronica, a major manufacturer of electronic components and
systems.
For over 15 years, Grupo
BEA has designed, developed, manufactured and installed sophisticated
automatic passenger counting systems to enable transit operators to manage
their fare collection processes effectively. With over 15,000 APC devices
successfully operating at transit operators in over 80 cities in 8
countries, Grupo BEA has become a world leader in APC solutions by
relentlessly focusing on improving transit productivity through
technological innovation.
In response to an
overwhelming demand from its transit clients, in 2001, Grupo BEA expanded
its transit fare collection solutions offering by developing and marketing a
sophisticated fare payment system based on secure contactless smart cards.
Through its subsidiary, Intelligent Transaction Systems de Mexico, Grupo BEA
has since sold smart card AFC systems throughout Mexico for use by over 100
transit operators. By early 2007, BEA’s transit clients will accept fare
payments by over 1 million smart cards that will be in active circulation.
These BEA systems are
applied across diverse transit modes including LRT, BRT and buses and are
used for fare payment at turnstiles and fare gates, at on-bus validators and
at cash/smart card fareboxes. Smart cards are issued and personalized at BEA
manufactured personalization terminals and are reloaded with value at BEA
manufactured attended and unattended Add-Value machines, which unattended
machines can also dispense smart cards. Passengers can also reload value
remotely over the telephone or by the Internet.
BEA Transit Solutions
recently installed its first Canadian smart card AFC system in Newfoundland
at Metrobus for the St. John’s Transportation Commission. Metrobus
passengers can pay their fares with a period pass of configurable duration,
from a smart card ‘ticket book’ of configurable size and from an electronic
purse. Their smart card will also contain a separate municipal e-purse for
payment for other municipal services and will allow passengers to collect
loyalty points for future redemption.
Whether by providing state-of-the-art passenger counting systems or a specialized cash/smart card farebox or a flexible configurable smart card AFC system, Grupo BEA is dedicated to “improving transit productivity through technological innovation” and BEA Transit Solutions is focused on providing “innovations in smart card fare collection”.
